Week of July 1, 2019
This week has been so much fun. The classes and creations are amazing!
I enjoy seeing everyone start with the same pattern then put their own spin on it with color and technique.
The Scissor Man was in on Tuesday and gave us some interested information I would like to share for those with serrated scissors. Always cut with the serrated side as the lower blade. Take a charm or ribbon and mark your scissor handle so that you hold them correctly. This technique will make sure when you snip or cut that the item should "fall away" from you and not curl toward you. It also helps keep you blade sharper longer. Who knew? I just get nerdier all the time...first it was the needles and now its the scissors.
Lotus Blossum is up on the wall now and is all the rage whether it's planned with jelly rolls, yardage or using your scraps. The patterns are available so let's plan our next quilt with this pattern. There has been so many requests, we have scheduled a class on July 27th so you will see more information later on in the Newsletter.
The flange binding that you see in the photo will be taught, free of charge, on Tuesday, July 9th during Open Sew. If you would like to learn how to do a flange binding you will need an item to bind with enough fabric to go all the way around, 2" in strips in two (2) different colors.
Debby Walters will be returning in July to do another workshop which will be two sessions during one week, Double Vision Quilts. This is a really neat technique and there are no curved seams!
There will be a link below for registration.
Table Talk was a tremendous success. All participants arrived and received their first topper.
This next month we will see what they bring back for show and tell. Please know, if you missed June you may still sign up, we have plenty of room and plenty of available times. Registration is $11.99 and if you complete your topper and return with it the following month for show and tell you will receive the next topper at no charge. You are also welcome to purchase an additional topper at the same rate of $11.99, I just need to know in advance if you would like two. I am cool with someone wanting to drop out or travel but it's important to let me know because I would like to be sure I cut the appropriate amount of kits. This mean if you are thinking about joining, don't wait until the last minute otherwise you may have to cut your own kit--->completely kidding here, you guys know I would never make you work. Well, not too hard! Here is photo of the bright, fun and summer color which is June and the patriotic will be for July.
We have scheduled some dates for the Teeny Tiny Collage Groups by Laura Heine. These patterns come in groups of three (3) and there are a total of four (4) groupings. Each measures 16" x 20" finished. My goal is to bring you the technique in a doable size where we can enjoy the class but this size is perfect for a decor pillow, a center block, a tote, or a wall hanging. The dates will be July 24th or August 3rd. A link to registration will be at the bottom of the newsletter.
Finally, I would like to "revisit" a tried and true pattern that works with any fabric and colorway. It has maintained it's position of one of the best selling quilt patterns since it's release and I would like for you to think about it in a little different way. Let's mix and match colors and create something with a little more depth. Usually the 10" blocks are the same fabric or focus print, large scale prints. The then points that are created are usually all one color, maybe we should try some options and see what we can do! Whether you know this pattern well or have never used it before, I will be hosting a Walk About Revisited Workshop where we will not only think about these color options but we will work on nesting our seams and we will square up out half square triangle so nicely it will blow your socks off! There are a couple of methods for doing so and I would like to show you how to take that piecing to a level where you are proud to let someone get closeup!
I have not yet set a date but keep an eye on the website and
Facebook and I will get it on the schedule in the next few days.
If I were to book a bus to Festival would you be interested in traveling with me on the last day
of the show? It is a Sunday and there's a reason why I love Sunday.
1. Less Crowded.
2. If you have a ticket for a second visit, this is a great time to use it.
If this would be your second visit, then go to the exhibit, that's what I usually do if I have already went on preview nite or have already gotten my shopping done.
4. Some of the vendors do not want to take back excess inventory and there are deals to be had on occasion.
5. We would have a super fun time!
Think about this and message me ONLY if you ARE interested so I can get a head count and see what size bus we need. email@example.com
